Only days before September 11, 40 year old Scott O’Brien was like a little kid as he took a boat ride around New York City for the first time. “He was so happy. Every single thing was new to him,” his wife, Kelly Hayes, told The New York Times. The color photo of Scott to the left was taken on July 29th, 2001, at Shea Stadium at the end of the Mets/Phillies game. The green behind his head is center field.O’Brien was a native of Connecticut but had lived in Brooklyn for the last 13 years, after being transferred to New York by an employer. He was regional sales manager for Slam Dunk Networks and on the day of the attacks was attending a conference at Windows on the World on the 106th floor of Tower One. After the first plane hit he called his wife and left her a message on the machine. “I love you and I’ll see you soon,” were the last words she ever heard from him.
Along with his wife, O’Brien is survived by his 9-year-old son, Liam and 7-year-old daughter, Chloe.
Scott was a man, a son, a father, a brother, a husband...a living, breathing, laughing, loving human being. He and 2,995 others were killed on September 11, 2001. They shall not be forgotten.
